Bob Davoli
Bob Davoli, Managing Director at Sigma Partners, joined the firm in 1995 and has
25 years of experience in the high technology industry. His ability to identify
and motivate innovative founding teams has been an essential ingredient of his investment
success. Bob regularly leverages his deep operational experience and technology
intellect to support the firm’s portfolio companies.
Prior to Sigma Partners, Bob was President & CEO of Epoch Systems, the leading vendor
of client-server data management software products. He sold the firm in 1993 to
EMC for $141 million. Previously, he was the Founder, President and CEO of SQL Solutions,
a leading purveyor of services and tools for the relational database market. Bob
sold SQL Solutions to Sybase for stock eventually worth over $100 million. Bob served
as an executive officer of Sybase for over two years.
In recent years, Bob has appeared three times on the Forbes’ Midas list, a ranking
of top venture capitalists. He also appeared on the cover of Business Week in a
features story describing how VCs thrive through good and tough times.
Rich Erickson
Rich Erickson, a Venture Partner at Updata Partners, brings over 20 years of experience
in public and private application development and systems integration companies.
Rich started his career in the early 1980's with one of the TCP/IP Internet network
pioneers, Excelan, where he participated in the company's growth, IPO and ultimate
sale to Novell. From 1987 until 1997, he was one of two principals of Digital Network
Associates (DNA), a private network and systems integrator. Under Mr. Erickson's
guidance, DNA grew from start-up to almost $20M in revenues when it was sold to
United States Office Products in 1997. At USOP he subsequently played a key role
in the acquisition, divestiture, and integration of numerous technology services
businesses.
In late 1999 he joined iXL, an Internet application consulting firm, where he became
Senior Vice President of US Operations. During his tenure at iXL, Mr. Erickson headed
the restructuring of a 2000+ employee organization, the public to public company
merger integration of iXL with Scient in 2001, and the divestiture and sale of several
operating business units.
Most recently Mr. Erickson was President and CEO of AlphaNet Solutions Inc., a publicly-held
IT outsourcing company that was also an Updata Partners portfolio company. In less
than two years he drove the turn around, restructuring and ultimate sale to Ciber
(CBR-NYSE) in June of 2003.
Jack Freker
Jack is president and chief operating officer of Zenta. He is responsible for worldwide
operations and business development. Zenta is a leading provider of knowledge and
business process outsourcing and related services.
Mr. Freker brings more than 25 years of business leadership experience in a variety
of industries. He spent the first portion of his career in the consumer goods industry,
working with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Welch's, and Bristol Myers Squibb.
In 1992, Freker joined Convergys, a major outsourcing, consulting, and software
solutions provider, where he served in a variety of roles including senior vice
president of marketing/sales, group president, executive vice president and as president
of the Customer Management Group, the firm's largest operating unit, with over 60,000
employees and more than $1.6 billion in revenue. After driving record global expansion,
including significant growth in India and the Philippines, Freker left Convergys
in 2005 to become CEO of Boston-based Oblicore, Inc., a global enterprise software
company, where he increased global bookings more than 60% and generated a four-fold
improvement in U.S. revenues.
He also serves as a board member of several private and public firms including Vercuity,
a leader in telecom expense management, Interactions, an early stage automated self
service solution and with Nuance (NUAN:Nasdaq), a publicly traded global leader
in speech recognition.
Mr. Freker is a graduate of Princeton University and The Executive Management program
at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization
(YPO), the Princeton University Schools Committee and has chaired the Princeton
University Annual Giving Campaign.
Michael Cloran
As CEO and founder of Interactions, Michael’s vision and leadership help drive the
strategic direction of the company and its service.
After starting his career at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in 1990, Michael
left to become an independent consultant to Boehringer Mannheim, IBM, Aerotraining,
Quant Trading and, eventually Accenture itself. In 1995 he co-founded EnterAct,
a successful Chicagoland Internet service provider. EnterAct was sold in 1999 to
21st Century Telecom Group where Michael simultaneously assumed the roles of President,
Business Services Group (EnterAct) and VP of Sales and Service. When 21st Century
was bought by RCN, Michael assumed the role of Senior Vice President for Product
Management and Development at RCN in Princeton, NJ. Recognizing great untapped technical
and process improvement possibilities in these customer service intensive businesses
led to the key insights behind the radical approach of the Interactions service.
Jim Dreher
Jim serves as President of Interactions and as a board member. He joined Interactions
in 2004 and is responsible for Interactions day-to-day business operations and all
client delivery.
He started his career working in sales and consulting in the then cutting edge personal
computer field. In 1995 Jim joined Michael to help launch EnterAct by taking on
the VP, Operations role. At EnterAct Jim handled a variety of operations, including
the call center, sales & marketing, billing, and human resources. After the acquisition
by 21st Century, Jim assumed the role of VP, Product Management for the combined
company. He then took on the VP, Billing & Revenue Assurance role for the combined
company, where he managed the transition of the ISP Billing & OSS to RCN. At RCN,
Jim held VP level positions in Internet Product Management, Revenue Assurance, and
Process Engineering. All of which involved building new teams to tackle the challenges
facing the company. In his last role at RCN as VP, Process Engineering, Jim architected
strategies to improve processes both in the field and in the 600 seat call center.
